Do Not Wait, Reach Out: Why Staying Silent Can Hold You Back

A lot of athletes make the mistake of waiting for coaches to notice them. It can feel uncomfortable to reach out first, but silence is one of the fastest ways to get overlooked.

Coaches are juggling hundreds of names and schedules. Sometimes they want to respond but forget. Other times they have not seen your email yet. Reaching out shows maturity and interest, two things coaches look for in a recruit.

If you sent an email and never got a reply, do not assume it is over. Wait a week or two, then follow up with a short message. Reintroduce yourself, include your updated highlights, and show genuine excitement about the program. Even a simple update about your season or grades can get their attention.

Taking initiative can separate you from other players. The athletes who communicate consistently often end up getting noticed because they show that they care. Waiting quietly rarely leads anywhere. Keep reaching out, keep showing interest, and keep giving yourself chances to be seen.
